Maria Lantin et Glen Lowry

 

Maria Lantin is the Director of Research at Emily Carr University of Art + Design and the Director of the Stereoscopic 3D Centre. For many years she has been joining her love of Computing Science with her belief in the innovative potential of the arts. A circuitous route led her from obtaining her PhD in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University to leading the Visualization Lab at the Banff New Media Institute, to developing the Intersections Digital Studios (IDS) at Emily Carr.  She has had the joy of bringing to life many artist projects involving digital technology, and continues this practice at Emily Carr with collaborative and industry-partnered research.

Glen Lowry, PhD English (SFU), is a writer, cultural theorist, editor, and educator who specializes in collaborative practice as social engagement. An Associate Professor in the Faculty of Culture & Community and Vice-Chair of the Research Ethics Board at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Vancouver, BC, his work looks at notions of spatial justice and learning as an unsettled settler from Indigenous research and research methods. Co-editor / designer of Speaking My Truth: Reflections on Reconciliation and Residential School, Lowry is working for the Aboriginal Healing Foundation to develop resources and curriculum that challenge the legacies of residential schools and possibilities for reconciliation among Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Lowry is also a core member of Maraya (2007-2012), and has facilitated and participated in numerous presentations and talks on the intersections of creative practice, social engagement and cultural memory: Art Dubai (2010); Learning From Vancouver, at Western Front (2010); Interactive Futures ’09: Stereo; ISEA 2011 Istanbul; and Speculative Cities – Dubai, Panama City, Vancouver (2013). From 2001-2011, Lowry edited the Simon Fraser University-based cultural journal West Coast LinePacific Avenue (LINEbooks, 2009) is his first poetry collection.
